Expense Chart

As promised, here is the detailed breakdown of where my income goes. I use You Need a Budget, Primer version to keep track of everything by category.

I'm a regular lurker of pf blogs and I'm happy you posted your pf management tools. I have used a worksheet similar to this, but it doesn't leave you the room to plug in the actuals or variance from month to month. Do you track that? Also - I was a cat owner and it drove up my budget with the food, kennel and medical bills. Unfortunately, I had to let them go (they were also driving medical bills for me up because of allergies).

I use the You Need a Budget to track all my actual spending since it does all the subtracting for me and I can see which categories I"m overspending in, usually the discretionary. My pretty much fixed, the electric is a budget billing plan so its the same amount every month regardless of how much I use. The cable and phone are my estimates but are within a dollar or so of the actual. Right now I"m estimating the water usage because I prefer to pay it every month even though they only bill us every other month.

The cat expenses are pretty fixed as well and the $20 cat savings is is vet bill fund I'm building up so I won't take a hit next time he goes in.
